Our Rosh Yeshiva
Rabbi Avram Davis is Rabbi Emeritus and founder of Chochmat HaLev, a community synagogue and center for Jewish spirituality in Berkeley, Calfiornia, as well as founder and Rosh Yeshiva of Wisdom-Heart Academy, the world’s first progressive yeshiva (institute of higher learning for adults).
He holds a PhD in comparative Religion and Philosophy (the History of Consciousness) from University of California, Santa Cruz, and an MA in Jewish Studies from the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley. Rav Avram has studied at numerous yeshivas including Yeshiva Adar Torah, Yeshiva Mossas Rav Kook and Yeshiva Bratzlav. His ordination comes through the lineage of Rabbi Gershon WInkler and the Renewal movement.
He is the author of numerous books and is nationally known as an inspirational speaker, teacher and leader who presents the ancient wisdom of the Jewish tradition in vibrantly modern and easily accessible terms to audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
